GENERAL OUTLINE

Japanese

On January 17 every year, Tokyo Chiyoda Ward conducts an "emergency commuter evacuation drill" to raise awareness among commuters in case a major earthquake occurs in the central part of Tokyo.  This year, as the fifth commuter evacuation drill project, we invite foreigners residing in Japan.  With drill instructions provided in English, participants will gather at the starting point of underground space of Saiwai-dori Street for Tokyo station, move to a spot in front of Chiyoda Ward Office and break up.  The purpose of the evacuation drill is to better educate participants on how to respond to disaster situations in the middle of the city and to inform them of available safe locations.  In the orienteering section of the drill, attendees will have a chance to win prizes including agricultural products from Tsumagoi Village in Gunma Prefecture, which has formed a special disaster relief agreement with Chiyoda Ward.  If a large earthquake occurs, Tsumagoi Village will serve as a refuge area for Chiyoda Ward residents and provide assistance to the disaster area. Please join the evacuation drill to enhance and improve your survival skills and to learn more about Japans earthquake response plans.
